Introduction to Portrait Drawing Workshop Saturday 14th September 2024, 2pm-5pm
Pica Studios, 7a Grape Lane, York, YO1 7HU
An exciting taster workshop where artist Lesley Shaw will be giving lots of demonstrations and offering helpful tips to make drawing both easier and fun. Lesley has over 30 years experience as a figurative artist, and has taught both children and adults. Working with different mediums, you will be encouraged to work loosely and perhaps on a larger scale than you might usually choose.
Working from a live clothed model, this workshop will concentrate on the face and head. There will be some fun warm-up drawing exercises. Short and longer poses. You will learn how simplify the basic shapes of the face. With Lesley’s guidance, you will look at proportions and learn how the facial features sit in relation to one another. Together you’ll endeavor to find a likeness of the model and also tackle drawing hair. You’ll discover how different mediums and colour can affect the mood of a drawing.
Perfect for both beginners and improvers. So if you always liked drawing at school but were never encouraged or have lost your confidence, if you simply don’t know where to start, then this would be a great introduction. Or perhaps you have some drawing experience, but struggle with certain areas or want to return to drawing to dust off or improve your skills, then this is the workshop for you! Just bring yourself. All materials and refreshments provided.
Full payment on booking. You will receive an email reminder and general information 2 weeks before your workshop. Please notify Lesley of any dietry or access requirements.
If you need to cancel, a full refund or alternative date will be offered with at least 2 weeks notice of your session. However, Lesley is unable to offer any refund or alternative date if less than 2 weeks notice is given.
